June is LGBTQ+ Pride Month, in commemoration of the Stonewall Uprising. This year Temple Beth El will celebrate Pride Month with a Lunch and Learn series where we will explore themes of LGBTQ+ inclusion in our current day. Rabbi Greg Weisman and the leaders of our LGBTQ+ Task Force will guide the conversation.
June 1 – LGBTQ+ Dignity and Allyship
Rabbi Micah Buck-Yael, Director of Education and Training for Keshet, will lead a text study and discussion on LGBTQ+ empathy and how to be an ally to the LGBTQ+ community. Keshet works for the full equality of all LGBTQ+ Jews and their families in Jewish life, and Rabbi Buck-Yael will be teaching us how Temple Beth El can support that vision.
June 8 – Text study on Diversity, Dignity, and Community
Rabbi Greg Weisman will lead a text study on how teachings from our tradition inspire and guide us to welcome and celebrate the diversity within our community and create congregations that are inclusive of LGBTQ+ folk.
June 15 – LGBTQ+ Rights
Robin Schwartz, the Miami Donor Relations and Program Manager for Equality Florida, will join us to discuss the current state of LGBTQ+ rights and other issues of public policy in the State of Florida. Equality Florida is a civil rights group dedicated to securing full equality for Florida's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) community, and Robin will share how we can help in that effort.
June 22 – The History of the LGBTQ+ community in the Reform movement
Rabbi Greg Weisman and Robin Eisenberg, RJE, our Director of Jewish Learning and Living Emerita will lead a discussion on our Reform movement’s history in welcoming the LGBTQ+ community into our congregations. We will look at texts from our movement and our tradition that reflect on how and why our movement welcomed LGBTQ+ folk.
June 29 – Beth El Pride Circle Members
We end Pride Month with a panel discussion with the members of Beth El Pride, our LGBTQ+ Circle. They will reflect on their experience here at Temple Beth El and the events during Pride Month 2021.
