Honorees

RONNI GRAF, John Rogers Award for Exemplary Professional Service
Ronni and her team have created and sustained a culture of excellence at the Beck Family Campus that is the envy of all other Early Learning Centers in our area, both Jewish and secular. This year the obstacles she has overcome are extraordinary. It is a daily challenge to keep an early childhood center open during a pandemic with children as young as three months old who cannot wear a mask. Try telling a two-year-old to maintain a six-foot social distance and keep their hands out of their mouth.  When we reopened the ELC in September 2020 we had 140 students enrolled. The current enrollment is 235 and we already have 271 enrolled for next school year beginning in August 2021. These incredible results speak to the level of excellence Ronni insists upon from her team. She is a tireless worker and her passion for Temple Beth El, her team members and, most importantly, her students is palpable. Ronni is intelligent, dedicated, reliable and she has a heart of gold. Congratulations Ronni on this well-deserved award.

ROBYN GRAD, Robin L. Eisenberg Jewish Learning and Living Award
Robyn is completing her tenth year as a lead teacher in our 3-year old program at the Beth El Early Learning Center. During that time, Robyn has consistently exemplified all of the qualities that are critical in an exceptional teacher. She is kind, warm, empathetic, organized and understanding. She is also silly, fun, and loves to sing and dance with her students.  Miss Robyn is highly requested by parents for a very good reason. With over 30 years of experience in early childhood education, she is very adept at working with a wide range of students and preparing them for future success. Miss Robyn believes, “Children need to feel secure and loved. That will give them a great foundation for the rest of their lives, both academically and socially.” We are so thrilled to have Miss Robyn on our staff and are very honored to present her with this welldeserved award.

SONNY THAL, Joseph Q. Kline Lifetime Achievement in Volunteerism Award
Sonny has been a temple member for only 5 years, but has made a positive impact on the lives of so many, one would think she has been a member for many, many years. From the moment Sonny joined Temple Beth El, she made it a priority to make the temple her second home, and an extension of her family. One of her first volunteer positions was to lead a Chavurah group. She nurtured and fostered this group so they are like family. No one in this group goes to the doctor alone, Sonny makes sure of it! Pre-Covid, they had Shabbat dinner together, sat together at Shabbat services, and welcomed new friends to join them.

When Covid hit, Sonny became a Chai Line to healing, planning her days around what she could do for others. She delivered food to members who were food insecure. She delivered chicken or soup to members of her Chavurah who didn’t feel well. She was active on the Chaverim Team, calling members many times and checking on them throughout the year. Sonny is an active member of the Engagement & Programming Committee and a leader of Cooks’ Corner Circle. Somehow Sonny does all this while still staying in touch with her wonderful children, 14 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. We are all so proud that Sonny is the deserving recipient of the Joseph Q Kline Volunteer Award.
